Welcome to the BBOP Consultation Process

The Business and Biodiversity Offsets Program (BBOP) is a partnership of companies, scientists, NGOs, government agencies, research institutes, and financial institutions responding to a growing interest in the use of biodiversity offsets. The partners aim to ensure “no net loss” of biodiversity in the context of development projects through conservation activities that will protect threatened habitat, contribute to national biodiversity strategies and address local communities’ livelihood priorities. The BBOP Secretariat is currently managed jointly by Forest Trends, Conservation International and the Wildlife Conservation Society.

One of the main objectives of BBOP during its first phase is to develop, test and disseminate best practice guidance for designing and implementing biodiversity offsets. The BBOP Secretariat initiated an on-line consultation between June and September 2008 to seek input from anyone interested on the draft principles and biodiversity offsets methodology toolkit we are developing with the BBOP Advisory Committee.  We are now working to take your feedback and suggestions into consideration as we revise the BBOP documents, and this will help us improve the quality and usefulness of these materials.  The documents listed below were posted to this site on a staggered basis over 12 weeks and each document remained open for review and comment for at least six weeks each.  Please point to each document below to see a brief description.  For a diagram illustrating how these documents relate to each other and the planned BBOP outputs click here. Although the consultation period has closed, you can still log on/sign-up and access the documents.  While we may not be able to do justice to any comments received after the deadlines, we are always interested to hear from you. If you have specific suggestions or questions, please be in touch with Patrick Maguire (pmaguire@forest-trends.org) and we'll do our best to take your views into consideration.
