How the Consultation Works

This public consultation forum is designed to enable anyone who is interested in biodiversity offsets to review and comment on the draft principles and the guidelines, and issues papers that BBOP is developing as part of its methodology toolkit.

Step 1. Sign Up

Simply click the "Sign Up & Start Commenting" button below or the "Sign Up!" tab above to start the process. You'll be asked to enter your personal information (Name, Email Address, Etc) and select a username and password. We never share your personal information with third parties!

Step 2. Selecting Content to Review

Once you are logged in, you will be shown a list of documents which are currently available for review as well as others that will be posted to this site in the near future. Simply select the documents that you are interested in reviewing. You can change your selections at any time, but by designating the sections you're interested in reviewing we will be able to send you notices when new content is posted or when a section you'd like to review is scheduled to be closed for public commenting.

Step 3. Start Commenting

You can either click the "Start Commenting" tab (which will appear once you've logged in) or click one of the documents you’ve selected to start the commenting process. You'll see a split-screen with the text you're reviewing on the top and a list of guiding questions to respond to below (we’re interested in any other comments you care to submit, but do hope you’ll offer views on the guiding questions, too). In addition, you can download a pdf version of the document you’re reviewing from this page, and in some cases, other documents that provide context for the consultation paper.  Any feedback or comments that you give to the questions will only be available to the paper authors and other members of the BBOP Advisory Committee for the purposes of addressing those comments in the final draft of BBOP toolkit (though you'll also have the ability to publish your comments for other users to see if you'd like). In some cases, the editing team may contact you to clarify a comment or to confirm that we have adequately addressed your comment, particularly if there is a direct conflict between your input and those of another reviewer.

If you have comments that you wish to share with all public reviewers of a document, we have provided a public comments space at the bottom of each document review page.  Please be aware that any feedback you give in the public comments space will be seen by all reviewers.  These comments will appear in chronological order and will be identified with your name. As mentioned above, you also have the option of publishing your responses to our guiding questions so that other users can view them.
